ECLAC (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile)
October 08 to 10, 2014
Tercer taller regional de la plataforma LEDS LAC

About the Workshop

From October 08 to 10, 2014, the Third Regional Workshop of the Platform was held in Santiago, Chile: "LEDS in Latin America and the Caribbean: From planning to implementation", jointly organized by the LEDS LAC Platform, the Sustainable Development and Human Settlements Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Climate Change Office of the Ministry of Environment of Chile.

The III Workshop was a success and the objectives were met. During the three days 106 people attended, from 20 different countries. The inauguration was in charge of the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena; the Director of IDDRI, Teresa Ribera; the Head of the Climate Change Office of the Ministry of Environment of Chile, Fernando Farías; and Margarita Astrálaga, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the UNEP Program. The moderator of the workshop was Hernán Blanco, from the MAPS Chile project.

This event provided a forum for government officials, international organizations, technical experts and other stakeholders in the region to share experiences and best practices, participate in training, establish collaborative links, and find innovative ways to advance low-emission and climate-resilient development.

It also sought to consolidate the construction of a shared vision, seek synergies with other regional initiatives, and delve into the priorities, services and collaborative activities that will be addressed by the Regional Platform and its global platform in 2015 in response to the common needs of the countries of the region.

Workshop objectives

  • Promote low-emission development with a focus on resilience through the exchange of approaches, experiences, knowledge and best practices among experts from the LAC region and the world, especially related to the topics prioritized by the platform.
  • Socialize and strengthen ongoing initiatives related to low emission development (LEDS) through the exchange and learning among projects and professionals (peers) and promoting networking spaces.
  • Promote the platform's services, take advantage of the specialized service offerings of the global working groups and seek synergies with other initiatives.
  • Consolidate progress on the agreements reached for the LAC region at the second regional workshop in Lima, Peru and the third global LEDS GP workshop in Ethiopia, and detail priorities as input for the 2015 work plan.
