About the webinar

The Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is an international forum that brings together the largest donors of development finance, and tracks external finance for development. Among others, it tracks donors’ commitments to activities of the Rio Conventions (climate change, biodiversity and desertification), through the Creditor Reporting System (CRS) and the “Rio markers” system. Donors need to indicate for each development activity that will be accounted as Official Development Assistance, through the OECD, if this activity has the environment as an principal objective or not.

Within the CAD work, are the WP-STAT (statistical working group), which provides public and reliable data on official development finance, and the ENVIRONET (network for the environment and development cooperation), which promotes and facilitates integration of environmental and climate issues in development cooperation. Both collaborate in improving the understanding and access to these data.

The goal of the webinar was to explain the functioning of the CAD statistical system, specifically in development finance statistics related to climate: how data is collected and reported, the type of information available and the progress achieved in improving the quality and coverage of the data. Additionally, practical applications of the data were presented in relation to the improvement of transparency, tools for dialogue between donors and recipient countries.
