About the webinar<\/span><\/h2>\n

Adaptation to climate change and mitigation of greenhouse gases should ideally begin with a long term planning process. Uncertainty about future social, economic, political and climatic changes and the complexity of the systems of which they are part, make the development of effective and robust plans and policies a challenge. Building scenarios based on relevant future change drivers and uncertainties for the scope of these policies, with the leadership of key stakeholders in multiple sectors, disciplines and geographic levels, enables working with this uncertainty and exploring alternative development paths with a systemic approach.<\/p>\n

This webinar discusses the importance of developing scenarios in a participatory way, as a basis for the development of effective climate policies, and will presents the experience of Costa Rica in using this type of scenarios for the design of their Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC).<\/p>\n

About the speakers<\/span><\/h2>\n

Deissy Martinez Bar\u00f3n<\/strong>
She is an economist and professional in international relations and political studies at the Military University of New Granada in Colombia with emphasis on Rural Development. Her experience includes work in Colombian governmental entities such as the National Planning Department (DNP) and the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) on the analysis of the economic impacts of climate change and environmental national accounts.<\/p>\n

Marieke Veeger<\/strong>
Geographer and researcher in scenarios and policies and a graduate of the Vrije Universiteit of the Netherlands. She has led development processes of public policies based on future scenarios in Costa Rica, Honduras, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia.<\/p>\n

Pascal Girot<\/strong>
He is Sectorial Coordinator for Climate Change at the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica. Has worked as an international consultant for UNDP, UNEP, IADB, FAO and IUCN. In particular, his work in Latin America and the Caribbean has focused on environmental and climate policy, land use planning and protected areas, with special emphasis in disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change.<\/p>\n

Franklin Paniagua<\/strong>
Has over 21 years experience in negotiation, facilitation and mediation of conflicts in the public interest. He has developed professional courses on management of conflict of public interest and collaboration in the management of natural resources, particularly protected areas.
