According to projections of the International Energy Agency the increased demand of freight will come mainly from the developing world, which will triple its activity by 2050.

In Latin America, population growth and economic activity generate an increase in demand of logistics activity, and the strong modal share in favor of road transport leads to increased negative externalities and GHG emissions. These trends bring about unsustainable complex scenarios to meet national contributions for the mitigation of climate change and set significant challenges for a low emission development.

The webinar will analyze the general situation of freight transportation in Latin America and the emissions associated to this activity. It will also analyze in depth the modal share and the status and trends for each of the transportation modes. Finally, policy needs to address these problems at the urban and interurban levels will be analyzed. A case study on the design of a NAMA for the road movement of freight in Colombia will be presented and institutional and policy recommendations for the mitigation of GHGs will be made.

Presentations

Introduction.
