About the Webinar<\/span><\/h2>\n

Although cities occupy only 2% of the planet`s surface, urban populations use about 75% of the natural resources, produce 70% of greenhouse gas emissions, and highly vulnerable to climate change. For these reasons, cities play an important role in solving many global problems, for example through improved efficiency in energy use in transport and construction industry as well as in water supply systems and solid waste disposal.<\/p>\n

This webinar will feature the Footprint of Cities project, which promotes low emision development and climate change resilience in the cities of La Paz, Quito and Lima, starting from the measurement of the carbon footprint and water footprint of these three cities and their municipal governments.<\/p>\n

From this measurement, the project produced projections by sector for both footprints in the short, medium and long term; identified footprint reduction projects in 3 cities, based on reduction potential and cost-effectiveness; initiated a process of setting goals for reducing footprints led by local governments; and is currently supporting the transition from planning to implementation, through the search for funding sources, technology providers, and building partnerships with key stakeholders in the cities.<\/p>\n
