Date:<\/strong> Thursday, June 5th, 2014[\/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=\u00bbfa-clock-o\u00bb]<\/p>\n Time:<\/strong> 8:00 a.m – 9:30 a.m. (GMT -6)[\/fusion_li_item][\/fusion_checklist][fusion_text]<\/p>\n The role of the private sector is essential in the promotion and implementation of low emission development strategies (LEDS), and therefore the discussions about this topic often call for the promotion of mitigation actions by companies and\/or private investment in national mitigation projects. However, the traditional way to see businesses as simple subjects of public policy limits the possibilities to properly incorporate their perspectives, proposals, capabilities and needs in the design of LEDS. This restricted preconception about the role of the private sector can reduce the effectiveness of LEDS implementation.<\/p>\n The private sector can and should play a more active role \u2013as an interlocutor with the public sector\u2013 from the earliest stages of the formulation of policies, strategies and programs for low-emission development, to their implementation and continuous improvement. Interesting experiences exist in several Latin American countries, of initiatives emerged from private sector organizations to promote climate change action by businesses, many of them in line with national policies.
