About the webinar<\/span><\/h2>\n

Air quality is an urgent matter in the Latin America and the Caribbean. About 90 000 annual premature deaths are caused by air pollution and about 39,000 people die early because of diseases related to indoor pollution. This, coupled with the impact some pollutants have on climate change in the short term, makes action to reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) imperative and strategic for the region.<\/p>\n

This webinar aims to present the perspective of policies and actions on SLCPs in the LAC region. Seven countries in the region are already part of the CCAC and participate in the 11 different sectorial and crosscutting initiatives. As part of these activities last month the summary for decision makers of the first Integrated Assessment of SLCPs for LAC was presented. For the first time information generated in and for the region is made available for strategic decision-making. Examples of leadership in designing policies that integrate short and long term mitigation actions exist in the region and are a global benchmark.<\/p>\n

About the speakers<\/span><\/h2>\n

Marisela Ricardez<\/strong>
Has over 9 years of experience, including working at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Mexico where she witnessed first hand the foundation of the CCAC. She holds a Masters\u00b4 Degree in Climate Change and International Development from the University of East Anglia, UK. She currently works at UNEP Region<\/p>\n

Graciela Raga<\/strong>
Meteorologist graduated from the University of Buenos Aires has a PhD in Atmospheric Science at the University of Washington. She joined the Center for Atmospheric Sciences of the UNAM in 1995. Has numerous publications and participated as lead author in the IPCC reports.
