From April 1 to 4, 2025, Lima was the meeting point for representatives from all of Latin America and the Caribbean committed to a common goal: to strengthen adaptation to climate change. For four days, the <\/span>Adaptation Academy 2025<\/b> brought together national authorities, technical experts, representatives of international organizations and civil society actors to exchange experiences, learn together and build regional solutions to global challenges.<\/span><\/p>

This space, organized by the <\/span>UN Climate Change Secretariat<\/b>, <\/span>Avina Foundation<\/b>, <\/span>CAF -development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean-.<\/b> and the <\/span>United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)<\/b>The company had the valuable support of the <\/span>LEDS LAC Platform<\/b><\/a> and <\/span>Dragonfly<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

The main focus was clear: <\/span>improving the quality of adaptation and loss and damage reports<\/b>sharing lessons learned from the <\/span>Biennial Transparency Reports<\/b>The project will also help to identify funding opportunities and consolidate a regional community of practice.<\/span><\/p>

How to strengthen adaptation to climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean?<\/b><\/h2>

Assessing risks is only the first step. We also need to <\/span>helpful information<\/b>, <\/span>consistent frameworks<\/b>, <\/span>real participation<\/b> and <\/span>effective action<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

At the Academy, the following were identified <\/span>5 key learnings<\/b> that could mark a turning point in the way our region deals with climate change:<\/span><\/p>

1. Making the complex simple<\/b><\/p>

Risk assessment methodologies must be understandable, applicable and useful to those on the front line of climate action: <\/span>communities and local governments<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

2. Accessible data, effective decisions<\/b><\/p>

Strengthening robust and open databases is essential to implementing the <\/span>United Arab Emirates Framework<\/b>. The region should focus on innovation, the use of <\/span>artificial intelligence and big data<\/b>to make better decisions.<\/span><\/p>

Measure to improve<\/strong><\/p>

Aligning global and local indicators makes it possible to evaluate the real effectiveness of actions. The systems of <\/span>Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)<\/b> and transparency are key to moving forward.<\/span><\/p>

4. Local matters<\/strong><\/p>

Actively include the contributions of <\/span>subnational governments and communities<\/b> in the definition of the <\/span>Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA)<\/b> strengthens climate governance. We need structures <\/span>multilevel with real capabilities<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

5. Articulating frameworks, adding impacts<\/strong><\/p>

Strengthen integration with the <\/span>Sendai Framework<\/b> and the <\/span>Loss and Damage Mechanism<\/b> allows the <\/span>Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA)<\/b> and the <\/span>Nature-Based Solutions (NBS)<\/b> more visible and effective.<\/span><\/p>

Adapting also means transforming<\/b><\/p>

Latin America and the Caribbean have the opportunity to lead an adaptation that will <\/span>not only reacts, but also transforms<\/b>addressing structural inequalities and strengthening the resilience of the territories.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
