About the webinar
The Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) is a huge challenge faced by the municipalities of the region. The organic fraction represents on average 50% of the municipal waste generated. Despite being the waste with the highest generation, it is the fraction that is least managed (UN, 2018). Inadequate management of the organic fraction of waste causes the generation of greenhouse gases (GHG), a product of both transportation and the anaerobic degradation that occurs once it is disposed into landfills. In this sense, it is necessary to make this problem visible and provide different tools to address the complexity of organic waste and improve the MSWM.
This webinar will introduce the problem of organic waste management and present the experience of the Municipality of Villa La Angostura, beneficiary of a Technical Assistance provided by LEDS LAC. The difficulties and challenges of the municipality’s reality will be shared, as well as the lessons learned and recommendations resulting from the support provided. There will be a space for exchange and questions from the audience, where the experts in charge of the Technical Assistance will be able to provide some general recommendations on the topic presented.
